Mamaroneck mother convicted of murdering 4-year-old son found dead inside prison cell

A Mamaroneck woman serving 20 years to life for killing her four-year-old son was found dead in her cell this morning at the Bedford Hills Correctional Facility for Women, according to the New York State Corrections Department.

Manuella Maria Morgado, 60, pled guilty in the 2012 murder of Jake Reish.

Village Police had been called to her condo to check on her when they discovered the boy, who died of suffocation. Authorities said Morgado had tried to kill herself at the time but survived.

She and the boy’s father had been involved in a custody dispute.Corrections officials say an autopsy will be done to determine her cause of death.

Her defense attorney and the District Attorney’s Office had no comment.
