Man accused of assaulting 84-year-old woman at Wawarsing gas station, facing hate crime charge

A 37-year-old Lake Katrine man is facing a felony charge, accused of assaulting an 84-year-old woman at a gas station and attempting to steal her car.
Christopher Doulin approached Shirley Clayton, of Kerhonkson, as she was pumping gas at the Route 209 Mobil Station in Wawarsing, and shoved her to the ground, according to police.
Doulin entered Clayton’s Toyota Corolla and sped away southbound along Route 209.
State troopers responded to reports of a stolen vehicle. After troopers attempted to stop the vehicle, Doulin crashed and fled on foot.
He was quickly apprehended by the Troopers and immediately arrested. Doulin was determined to have been impaired by drugs and in possession of a small amount of cocaine.
Doulin was arraigned in the Town of Wawarsing Court and remanded to Ulster County Jail without bail.
