A Bronx man faced a judge for the first time for allegedly shoving his ex-girlfriend - and the mother of his child - from a 15th floor balcony while she was holding their eight-month-old baby.
Angel Carrasco, 31, is accused of pushing 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez to her death. Prosecutors say their baby, who is expected to recover physically, was granted an order of protection against her father.
The tragic incident happened at around 3:30 a.m. on Sept. 6 at Ramirez's apartment building in the Allerton section of the Bronx.
The NYPD identified Carrasco as a suspect a short time after the incident. News 12 also obtained surveillance footage of him walking away from the crime scene.
Carrasco was arrested two days after the alleged shoving incident. Officers walked him out of the 49th Precicnt later that day, where at one point, cameras captured him grinning ear to ear.
Loved ones, domestic violence advocates and community leaders held multiple vigils for Ramirez. Multiple people spoke about her infectious smile and the love she shared with everyone around her.
Carrasco was arraigned on Wednesday from his hospital bed, where he was taken almost immediately following his arrest. He faces a slew of charges including second-degree murder, first and second-degree attempted murder, manslaughter, assault and endangering the welfare of a child.
Carrasco is expected back in court on Nov. 4.
