Man arrested after Bronx subway shove sends rider onto tracks at Woodlawn station

A 51-year-old man has been arrested after police say he pushed a straphanger onto the subway tracks at the Woodlawn station in the Bronx Monday night.
Investigators say the incident happened shortly after 7 p.m. on a northbound 4 train platform.
Police say 51-year-old Rafael Escobar shoved a 47-year-old man onto the tracks during what officials describe as a violent encounter near the edge of the platform.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene and transported the victim to the hospital. Authorities say he survived the fall and is expected to recover.
Investigators are still working to determine what led to the push and whether the victim and Escobar knew each other prior to the incident.
The arrest comes as the NYPD says transit crime in the area has decreased compared to last year. Police data shows there have been two reported transit-related incidents in the precinct over the past month, compared to six during the same period in 2025.
Escobar is now facing multiple charges, including two counts of assault and reckless endangerment.
