Authorities say new charges have been filed against the man accused in the deadly shooting of a Yorktown teen near her Chicago college campus.

Jose Medina was allegedly found with a weapon while in custody in Chicago.

The Cook County Sheriff's Office says correctional officers recovered a six-inch sharpened piece of metal with a handle made from medical tape.

Prosecutors have now charged the 25-year-old Venezuelan migrant with possession of contraband while in jail.

He has pleaded not guilty to murder and related charges in the March 19 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Sheridan Gorman, a freshman at Loyola University.

His next court date is expected to take place on Monday.
