State police say a man found deceased in an apartment in Ellenville appears to have suffered a medical emergency.
Law enforcement and EMS were seen at the multifamily building at 268 Canal St. Thursday morning for hours.
People in the area reached out to News 12 with images of police outside of the house and a white sheet covering the lower part of the front door.
Neighbors say the man lived in the apartment and that they told police he kept to himself.
“They knocked on my door at 7 a.m. just to ask if I know him or heard of anyone he might be around. The only thing I knew was that was his vehicle,” says Steve Simpson.
State police have not identified the deceased or released his age. It’s not clear how they were called to the home. Authorities say the cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.
The tragedy is the fourth death in Ellenville involving police in recent months.
Two adult siblings died at a multifamily home at 129 Center Street in December from what police say was an accidental overdose. Police say another person died at the same residence on Center Street last month under non-suspicious circumstances.
