A 28-year-old Poughkeepsie man has been sentenced to 15 to 21 years in prison for beating his girlfriend with a belt in front of her 2- and 4-year-old children.
Prosecutors say the assault happened in March 2024, with Javan repeatedly striking the woman's body. Following two days of testimony and two days of deliberations, he was found guilty of assault, six counts of aggravated family offense, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities added that, while in custody, he violated a court order of protection by contacting the victim multiple times by phone.
McMillon was convicted in October 2024.
