A man was fatally struck by a taxi in Spring Valley Sunday, police say.

Ramapo police say they received a call at 1 a.m. Sunday about a man struck by a car in the parking lot at 64 East Eckerson Road.

Officers arrived to find a man stuck underneath a 2014 red Toyota Prius.

Investigators say the 45-year-old man was seriously injured, breathing, conscious and semi-responsive. First responders used a car jack provided by a bystander to lift the vehicle off the victim. He was then rushed to Nyack Hospital where later he died of his injuries. His name has not been released yet.

Police say the 32-year-old female driver of the car was working as a taxi driver and remained on the scene. Detectives say she was not under the influence of drugs or alcohol, but she was arrested for operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

According to police, the driver had just dropped off a fare and as she drove away, struck the man who was laying in the parking lot.

Investigators say the man may have been the victim of an assault prior to being struck by the vehicle, and it does not appear the taxi driver was involved in the assault.

Police are now investigating both the crash and what may have happened prior to the accident. Anyone with any information about this incident is asked to call the Ramapo Police Department at (845) 357-2400.
