One the second day of jury selection at the Orange County Courthouse, the man charged with shooting his grandson during a hunting trip unexpectedly pleaded guilty Wednesday. Wayne Kingston, 59, pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in the death of 13-year-old David Kingston. Police say after Wayne Kingston shot his grandson in Sparrowbush last Thanksgiving, he and nephew Jake Kingston continued to hunt and did not seek medical attention for David for more than an hour. The prosecutors believe that the men were more concerned about illegally hunting doe without a permit than getting David to a hospital.
Jake Kingston pleaded guilty to second-degree manslaughter in April and was expected to testify against Wayne during trial. Wayne will be sentenced on August 30.
