A Town of Wallkill man arrested for allegedly setting the Warwick home of a trooper’s father on fire this week was indicted for attempted murder and arson.

Prosecutors say 26-year-old Tyler Williams set fire to the residence last year, days before Christmas, using gasoline. They say he used Google to find the address.

Authorities say Williams was upset that the trooper issued him a traffic ticket.

“I’ve never seen something this egregious dealing with a police officer in my career, Orange County District Attorney Dave Hoovler says. “Horrible set of circumstances and we fully intend to hold this individual accountable.”

Williams was indicted on Friday. He previously pleaded not guilty at his arraignment in Village of Warwick Court.

Hoovler says Williams set fire to the house while the trooper’s family was inside.

Williams remains in Orange County Jail without bail and faces up to 25 years in prison if he’s found guilty.
