Close to 1,000 people filled Cadman Plaza Thursday for a memorial prayer service for George Floyd, an unarmed black man who died during an arrest by police in Minneapolis. 

Concerned citizens began to pour in hours before the service started. 

The service began with music and prayer. Protesters were seen holding up signs and cheering together. 

Protesters were heard chanting "Black Lives Matter" and said George Floyd’s name. 

 

There was not a welcome reception for Mayor Bill de Blasio-- who was drowned out by boos by people in the crowd who criticized the city’s curfew. 

The Rev. Kevin McCall asked for respect from everyone and stated that George Floyd was a godly man.

 

Organizers emphasized that the event was all about supporting the family throughout this very difficult time. 

Protests continued over the Brooklyn Bridge with a march to Foley Square on Thursday.
