Saturday will mark one of the final chapters for legendary Marist College women's basketball head coach Brian Giorgis.

Giorgis, 68, will coach his final home game as he plans to retire after 21 years behind the bench for the Red Foxes next month.

“I’m glad that I’m finishing with this group of kids because they've been wonderful,” Giorgis said. “We've had ups and downs and we've had injuries and stuff. They’re a good bunch of kids that really work hard, but its time. Do you want to listen to a 68-year-old guy? Most people want somebody younger that they can identify with.”

Giorgis will finish with over 460 wins, and at least 11 MAAC championships. At one point, he led the Red Foxes to an incredible nine consecutive titles. His greatest run was in 2007 when the Red Foxes reached the NCAA Tournament's Sweet 16.

“It was one of those things where a group got to be seniors,” Giorgis added. “They didn't want to be the one to end it, and they did everything in their power to get everyone to buy in and stuff like that.”

Before arriving at Marist, Giorgis helped build a girls basketball powerhouse at Our Lady of Lourdes High School, where he coached the Warriors to four consecutive state championships while compiling a 451-44 record.

Giorgis is believed to be the first head coach in NCAA Division I history to record 400 wins at the collegiate and high school level.
