The Mark Shaparin Foundation is spreading awareness about SUDEP (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) through noodles with the launch of its second annual Ramen Challenge.
The foundation was created in memory of Mark Shaparin, who died nearly two years ago after suffering a seizure at age 10. His family later learned about SUDEP, a condition they say is not as rare as many believe.
Mark’s father, Naum Shaparin, co‑founded the foundation to educate both patients and the medical community about SUDEP and seizure safety. The goal is to ensure families are informed about the risks and the steps that can potentially save lives.
The Ramen Challenge is a social media campaign designed to get the community involved while raising money and awareness. Participants are encouraged to join in, share their videos online and help spread the foundation’s message.
The challenge officially launched Sunday at Scarsdale Congregational Church, where community members gathered to support the foundation’s mission and highlight the importance of open conversations about epilepsy and seizure safety.
It runs through the end of June.
