Mayor Alan Simon says a man went into the Maple Deli on Maple Avenue armed with the machete and slashed another man in the arm.
It is unknown if the victim was a customer or working in the store.
The victim was rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, but ones that were not life-threatening.
The mayor says the suspect was arrested and was taken to hospital due to injuries from fights earlier that evening.
