Mayor Joseph M. DeStefano originally declared a state of emergency until 6 a.m. tomorrow, but it was lifted effective 2 p.m. today. Some homes were evacuated and schools were closed for the day.
The county executive is now calling for additional federal assistance for Orange County, an area where homes and businesses alike have been dealt a severe blow by Mother Nature.
Nancy Carney, like many of her neighbors, has been recovering from Hurricane Irene when the still soggy Hudson Valley was walloped by yet another storm, leaving sewers overflowing into the streets. She says it is now back to pumping and cleaning up the aftermath.
If you have an emergency condition such as water level approaching electric panels or you require evacuation from your home or business, please call the fire department at 845-343-4000, the police department at 845-343-3151 or 911.
If you require basement pumping you can also contact the fire department. The Emergency Operation Center for the City of Middletown is located at the mayor's office and can be reached at 845-346-4100 or 845-346-4101.
