In his weekly radio address, Mayor Michael Bloomberg told listeners he plans to ban cell phones from Bronx and city schools. Bloomberg says cell phones are no better then guns, knives and box cutters. He says the phones disrupt education because students misuse them. He adds, some students may use them to text message or watch pornography. Students, parents and education advocates say cell phones are necessary since the attacks on 9/11. The Department of Education has begun confiscating hundreds of cell phones.
