5ds agoCommuters using Metro-North rail services have been notified about a potential strike as Metro-North workers express their discontent.
Members of the Transport Workers Union of America distributed leaflets to passengers at the Croton-Harmon train station. They claim that mechanics and cleaners have been operating without a contract for a period spanning four years. According to them, negotiations with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority and the railroad have not been conducted in good faith.
The union alleges that the MTA and the railroad are failing to provide the same wage package to approximately 600 Metro-North workers that was given to subway and bus workers by the MTA.
In response, the MTA contends that this particular union is resorting to fear tactics and asserts that there is no immediate risk of a lawful strike occurring at Metro-North during this year.
The union holds a differing viewpoint, asserting that employees retain the legal right to strike provided certain criteria outlined under the Federal Railway Act are satisfied.
