A Middle Island couple is fighting for the return of their wedding deposit.
Shayna Lawshe and Leonard Cafarelli say they paid $5,600 to have their upcoming wedding at Butterfield's in Hauppauge.
The couple found out Butterfield's had closed in October and sold its space to Jameson's Bar & Grill.
They contacted the business to get their deposit back, but they say Butterfield's is refusing to return their money in full.
"They should give us our money back because they did not provide a service. They are no longer providing a service. I don't know why they think they are entitled to our funds."
The couple says they turned down an offer from the sports bar to host their special day because the venue isn't suitable for a wedding.
They have filed a complaint with the Office of the New York State attorney general and have filed a lawsuit in Suffolk County's Small Claims Court.
A representative for Butterfield's says due to the pending litigation, they can't comment on the case.
