6h agoSky Mendoza was upfront and center Wednesday for a ceremonial ground breaking of her new home on Broad Street.
The young woman was paralyzed from the neck down in 2018 during a crash in the Bronx that killed her pregnant stepmother, Jennifer Parisella.
Her new two-story home will be 1,800-square-feet with three bedrooms and two baths.
The first floor will be almost entirely for Sky.
Mayor Joe Destefano said he’s happy the city could help.
“Not one person said why are you doing this,” said Destefano. “Everyone rallied from the community and said it must be done so we got it done and we’re just looking forward to this new home for Sky and the opportunity she’s going to have as her life moves forward to enjoy her home. Enjoy her residence.”
News 12 is told construction will start right away and that Sky’s new home should be finished in a few months.
Official say the cost of Sky’s new home is about $400,000. Labor and materials are being donated by dozens of companies with the help of the Spring Lake Toys Foundation.
