School officials in Minisink Valley say a bullet was found inside a school gym.

The superintendent of schools in Minisink Valley sent out a message early Friday morning saying, "Last evening ... at the conclusion of the boys modified basketball game at the Middle School, several members of our team were sitting in the middle school gym's bleachers and found a bullet on one of the bleachers' steps."

Students handed the bullet over to the team coach, who alerted administrators.

State troopers were called, and a thorough search was conducted throughout the building.

The school was fully cleared, and classes were held as usual Friday.

Out of an abundance of caution, there was an added police presence on campus.

An investigation is underway into how the bullet ended up on school property.
