Bronx District Attorney Darcel D. Clark says a resident of the Mitchel Houses in Mott Haven has been indicted, for allegedly throwing his family's cat out of their 15th-floor apartment window.

Miguel Perez, 32, allegedly tossed Shadow, a small black cat, from the window at around 10:20 a.m. on March 4 after Shadow scratched his hand. The cat hit the pavement below and died, prosecutors say.

Perez is charged with aggravated cruelty to animals and torturing and injuring animals. He first faced a judge Thursday and was indicted Tuesday.

"We are supposed to love and care for our companion animals. Allegedly, in a fit of rage, this defendant tossed the family's cat out of his apartment window, causing the animal's death," said Clark. "The abuse of animals will not be tolerated."

Perez is due back in court July 21.
