A Mohegan Lake man faces federal charges in the death of a man due to fentanyl.
The U.S. Attorney's Office says Perry Freeman, 37, sold fentanyl to the victim in November 2021.
According to reports from Yorktown police, they responded to a call regarding a burning car in a parking lot in Mohegan Lake. Upon arrival, authorities discovered the victim in the driver's seat with the accelerator pedal engaged. The victim was pronounced deceased.
Further investigations revealed that the vehicle caught fire due to overheating while the accelerator pedal was pressed, and the car remained in a parked position. An autopsy determined the victim's cause of death as both acute fentanyl intoxication and accidental.
Freeman faces 20 years to life imprisonment if convicted.
