As the number of monkeypox cases rise, a Mount Vernon health center will be getting much-needed doses of the vaccine.
Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health center says it has 20 confirmed doses in hand.
The center currently has a waiting list of about 30 people and 10 appointments already scheduled.
And although, the MSM population – men who have sex with men – are the most affected, Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center's Cecilia Dean says, "that does not mean that heterosexuals cannot be infected."
They say it's about opening the conversations within all the communities and educating them.
It's a two-dose vaccination. The second jab in the arm comes four weeks after the first dose is administered.
Once the 20 doses are given to 20 people, those 20 will then wait for the second allocation for their second dose.
Those who are in need or are interested in getting the monkeypox vaccine, an appointment is required by calling 914-885-6529.
The health center plans to gradually make the vaccines available at their two other locations in Yonkers and Greenburgh.
