The manager of a pharmacy in Monroe is behind bars after police say he was stealing medication.
Police say 27-year-old Damien Gavin, of Walkill, worked as a store manager of the Eckerd on Lakes Road for the past two and a half years. Gavin was pulled over for a traffic violation Monday night but police searched his car after smelling marijuana. Police not only found the marijuana, but they also found hydrocone pills, hallucinogenic mushrooms, viles of a hospital anesthesia, $1,600 and receipts from the Eckerd Gavin manages. Gavin acknowledged that as a manager he was able to take items off the shelf, scan them then list them as returns and pocket the money.
Gavin is being held at the Orange County Jail. He must come up with $10,000 bail or a $75,000 bond. He's facing felony and several misdemeanor charges. Police in Monroe say Eckerd will be performing an audit in the store to see if anything else may be missing, including drugs or cash.
