A first of its kind program for the Bronx is helping people who suffer from food allergies.
Montefiore Medical Center opened up a food allergy center for both adults and children who experience bad reactions to certain foods, such as wheezing, hives or swelling of the lips, mouth, eyes or tongue.
The center has brought new, advanced tests to the borough, including the oral food challenge and component testing, in order to detect specific food allergies.
Doctors say the goal is to teach patients that it is possible to live a full life with dietary restrictions.
