WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
- Mostly cloudy skies will linger this evening but showers are not anticipated from them.
- Going into the weekend, it was originally going to be a dry and pleasant one, but remnant moisture from Helene will try to move up this way.
- Scattered showers are possible, on and off, through the day on Saturday. It will be a damp-feeling kind of day, and with a breeze at times, it will feel cool.
- Sunday has less of a chance of showers, but still, it's possible to see some, especially in the morning hours. Drier air moves in Sunday afternoon and lasts through Monday.
- While Monday looks good, the nice weather will not hang around for long. Another chance for rain arrives Tuesday afternoon with a cold front approaching the region.
- Rain chances are in the forecast Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday. Drier weather returns Thursday and into the upcoming weekend.
TROPICS:
- The National Hurricane Center is monitoring five systems.
- Hurricane Helene made landfall at 11:10 p.m. 10 miles southwest of Perry, Florida, in the Big Bend region as a Category 4, with winds of 140 mph. It has weakened down to a depression as of Friday afternoo and moved over Tennessee and Kentucky. It will bring torrential rains and gusty winds to numerous states in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.
- Hurricane Isaac formed Wednesday night in the open waters of the North Atlantic Ocean. It will be moving to the northeast, weakening along its journey, but is not expected to directly impact any landmasses over the course of the next several days.
- Tropical Storm Joyce formed Friday in the open waters of the Central Atlantic Ocean. It will move slowly across that part of the ocean, not impacting any landmasses.
- Another disturbance recently formed in the Western Caribbean Sea and has a 0 to 30% chance of development in the next two to seven days as it heads northwestward.
- A fifth disturbance is near the Azores (by the West coast of Africa) and has a 0 to 30% chance of development in the next two to seven days as it heads westward.
