The organizations City Harvest and Just Food teamed up with Montifiore Medical Center to set up stands of affordable fruits and vegetables once a week at P.S. 28 in Mount Hope.
City Harvest officials say lack of nutrition is a big concern in the Bronx. They say the goal of the Food Project is to provide a healthy living for children. Another goal of the project is to make it easier for residents to get access to affordable healthy food options.
The USDA gave the community food program a grant of $288,000 to make the food stand initiative possible. Meanwhile, City Harvest says this year, more than 600 community food programs throughout the five boroughs will receive free food from the organization.
