A Mount Kisco teen who is a nationally ranked table tennis star is gearing up to compete at U.S. Nationals in Texas on Monday.
High school freshman Amoolya Menon started playing table tennis when she was only 8. The 14-year-old says she was horrible then, but really liked the sport.
Now she is ranked No. 9 in the country and dreams of representing the United States in the 2028 Paris Olympics, and she's working hard to get there. She practices the game she's fallen in love with every day for 2 to 3 hours.
Menon thrives on the strategy involved in excelling at table tennis. For her, it's all about one point at a time.
Aside from her intense discipline, she says her attitude is what makes her great.
"I've made more of an ability to show [that] I'm here to win, more than proving others wrong, proving myself right -- that's sort of the part that I really like," she said.
Menon will go up against other players her age in Texas, as well as in the Women's Open.
