The Mount Pleasant Central School District is letting parents know that it's stepping up security after a student walked out of class on Monday.
The district says the student left Hawthorne Elementary School.
School staff found her and brought her back to class.
Mount Pleasant police district officials and the student's parents were notified.
The superintendent of schools says he met with Hawthorne faculty to go over revised safety protocols.
The school is now installing alarms on doors that don't have supervision this week.
More staff will be stationed at the doors of Hawthorne and Columbus.
