A food truck in Mount Vernon is in need of donations from the community so that it can begin to feed the city's youth and homeless population.
The "Nourish Us" food truck is currently only offering snacks, juice and bottled water at parks and playgrounds in the city. Once it's up and running, it will also be able to offer hot meals to anyone in need.
"We're not going to turn anyone away. Between the hours of 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., we're going to serve a hot nourishing meal," said Sabrina Powell, of the Mount Vernon-based nonprofit 914 Lock, Inc.
Organizers hope to have the food truck up and running by the end of the month, with the installation of a generator, propane tanks for the stove and food donations from local churches and businesses.
David Gladman, a retired professional chef who once worked at the United Nations, will create the delicious meals.
The nonprofit has established a GoFundMe page to raise money to purchase the needed equipment and supplies.
