Mount Vernon celebrated the start of Women’s History Month with a gathering at City Hall.
Several women at the event were highlighted for their contributions to society. This included Elvira Castillo, the founder of Westchester Latinos Unidos, a group that provides aid to the community.
"I am honored, it makes me feel fantastic. Of course, it gives my children, especially my daughter, an incentive to do good for society,” she said.
Mayor Shawyn Patterson-Howard, the first female mayor of Mount Vernon, was also in attendance.
