A Mount Vernon High School senior is being celebrated for her academic accomplishments. Annastajah Douglas is this year's recipient of the Kayla Green Memorial Award.
Kayla's father and younger brother presented her with the award.
Douglas has over a 3.0 GPA and will be attending Xavier University in Ohio this fall. Kayla Green was a JV Cheerleader at Mount Vernon High School. She was stabbed to death last year by another teenager from a rival cheerleading group hours after the city's parade celebrating the high school boys’ basketball team's state championship. Kayla had a 93 average and had hopes of studying nursing at Morgan State University.
