The search for a suspect continues after a man was shot in Mount Vernon on Wednesday, just days before the city's planned event to kick off Gun Violence Awareness Month.
Police were called to the area of South Fulton and Edison avenues around 3 p.m. for a report of shots fired. Upon arrival, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound to his abdomen.
The victim was transported to Jacobi Medical Center in the Bronx, where he was listed in stable condition.
Investigators cordoned off the area, but there is no information yet on a motive for the shooting. Police are asking for the public's help in identifying the suspect.
The incident comes just a day before the city's planned "Unite to End Gun Violence Prevention Month Kick Off" event, which is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m. on the lawn of the Dole Center. The event will feature free food, music, and other activities in an effort to promote a safer community.
