A former Westchester County employee has pleaded guilty to accepting bribes from daycare providers in exchange for helping them obtain reimbursement payments.

The Westchester County District Attorney's Office says 61-year-old Cheryl Spencer, of Mount Vernon, pleaded guilty to receiving bribes and other charges.

Authorities say Spencer, who worked as a senior audit clerk in the county's Department of Social Services, demanded payments from daycare providers in exchange for issuing reimbursement checks.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Spencer must pay about $8,500 in restitution. If she pays the full amount within two years, her felony plea will be withdrawn and she will be sentenced to three years of probation. If she fails to pay the restitution, she will be sentenced to five years of probation.

Westchester County says Spencer's employment ended in August 2025.
