The MTA is honoring one of its own from Westchester County for saving a dog from being hit by a train in Manhattan.

It happened Saturday when Lucy bolted out of her owner's apartment in Battery Park City. She went down the elevator, out her building, and ran across the West Side Highway to get to the Chamber Street Subway Station.

People reported seeing the dog on the Citizen App, and the MTA went on a mission to find Lucy, who was ducking under trains and running through tunnels all the way to 28th Street.

That's where MTA train supervisor Jose Bonilla, who lives in Westchester, spotted Lucy walking on the tracks.

He stopped the train he was on.

"I called out her name. She laid down in front of me. I petted her. I picked her up. There was a bite involved in that moment. And I was able to put her on the 2 Train right into Molly's hands. Basically, another day in transit," he says.

Lucy is healthy but has a broken nail on her paw and needed a bath this weekend.

The MTA gave Bonilla a certificate for commendation for what they say were his heroic actions to save Lucy.
