NYPD officials say a multi-agency operation ended with gunfire on Myrtle Avenue with the suspect in the deadly shooting of a New Rochelle taxi driver.

Neighbors tell News 12 they heard about 10 to 15 shots fired around 10 a.m., and saw detectives running through the Ingersoll Houses parking lot.

According to investigators, Percell Lamont Ross, 52, was spotted and as officers tried to arrest him, police say Ross began firing his gun at police and took off running.

Police say they returned fire as they chased Ross, who also continued firing in various directions until he ran out of ammunition, then he surrendered to officers.

Ross is the suspect in the murder of Andres Valenzuela, 62, the cab driver was found shot to death on Main Street in New Rochelle last Thursday morning.

Police recovered a .22 caliber revolver they say was used during Sunday's shootout and it is believed to be the same weapon used in the murder.

New Rochelle police took Ross into custody but then he was turned over to the FBI because in addition to facing murder charges, he is also a wanted fugitive for attempted murder charges in Connecticut as well as sex trafficking in Virginia.
