It's time to see what's blooming at the Orange County Arboretum in Montgomery on this week’s Road Trip: Close to Home
“An arboretum is basically a tree museum. We showcase trees of different origins, shapes, sizes and colors,” explains Peter Patel, horticultural supervisor at the Orange County Department of Parks
You can walk alongside hundreds of tree, shrub and plant species spanning 35 acres. “It’s really just really walking and commuting with nature, you know, as we disconnect from our electronic devices and just be free here,” says Patel.
Be on the lookout for themed gardens around the arboretum that showcase different plant life - such as the alpine garden, where unique drought-resistant plants thrive.
There's also a 9/11 memorial tucked within the gardens.
A large granite sphere that floats on water is surrounded by the names of fallen Orange County heroes.
A short stroll will take you to the Asian garden, where you can take a seat and experience serenity.
After getting relaxed, you can wind down the road trip at City Winery Hudson Valley. It’s a 19th century knitting factory transformed into a wine-making haven. “We have a tasting room. You can come and have a flight of wine and test some wine,” says chief winemaker David Lecomte.
There are about a dozen wines that’ll take your tastebuds on an adventure from the Hudson Valley and beyond!
Then, pair your glass with some good eats at the winery’s restaurant. Dine in or take out and enjoy live music during the summer concert series every weekend! “Just having some good time and relaxing. I think this is the most important thing,” says Lacomte.
