It?s no longer necessary to leave the Bronx for a nature walk.
A new stretch of the Bronx River Greenway project by Muskrat Cove is complete.
Lifelong Bronx resident Josie Burke inspired the Department of Parks and Recreation to preserve the hidden sanctuary.
?It was never taken care of,? she said. ?It was just ? abandoned.?
Burke roamed the land with her late husband and wanted to have it cleaned up.
The project was funded by city and federal funds as well as the Bronx River Alliance.
The upgrades are expected to provide safer conditions for both adults and children and include new pavement, signs and bicycle racks.
