A good Samaritan helped Yonkers police apprehend a suspected porch pirate who was trying to flee officers.
Yonkers police say Francisco Jose Eder Mateo was caught on Ring camera surveillance video stealing packages from someone's front porch. Police responded swiftly upon receiving the call and when they tried to stop him, Mateo led them on a brief foot pursuit around the area.
However, Mateo was stopped in his tracks by a Yonkers public works employee who saw him running from the officers. He got out of his car and knocked Mateo to the ground, allowing pursuing officers to apprehend him.
Mateo was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property, both felonies – among other misdemeanors. At his arraignment, he was released on his own recognizance.
