A fatal fire in the village of Florida claimed the life a senior citizen Thursday night, according to neighbors, who say she became trapped and couldn’t escape the fast-moving flames.
The fire started at 52 Country Club Drive around 10:30 p.m., according to neighbors.
They say the victim was in her 80s and lived there with her husband and adult son.
Neighbors say the victim's husband is on oxygen but made it out alive along with their son.
“It’s heartbreaking. I’m so sorry,” said Evie Bottorf. “We know the son, Oleg, and are very sorry that this happened. Just tragic.”
Neighbors say the family lived at the residence for decades since the 1970s.
“She was a really nice lady,” said Rick Hawkins.”
According to county records online, someone else owns the townhouse.
News 12 tried to reach out to the owner listed, but no one got back.
So far, the victim's name is not known. It is also not known what started the fire.
The house looks destroyed, and there’s no word on who, if anyone, is helping the victim’s husband and son.
State police are handling the case.
News 12 has calls out to them as well as the Florida Fire Department for information.
