Hundreds of new cadets arrived at the United States Military Academy at West Point yesterday to begin basic training.
Day 1 includes a haircut and lessons in marching, but for the new cadets and their families, it means much more.
"I'd be proud to serve my nation overseas, anytime," says Alexander Sauer, a new cadet. "It's another reason why I wanted to come."
The new cadets, who must complete six weeks of basic training, were met by protesters rallying against the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.
