The mother of a New City Catholic school student complains a classmate is getting off easy after calling her daughter the "N" word.
Fifth-grader Nika Delbiando said she was preparing for a religion test at St. Augustine School when a girl started picking on her.
Delbiando said after a verbal exchange, the student said, "at least I'm not a n----r."
Delbiando says in the past, classmates have also made fun of her hair. She took the problem to her mother, Jennifer Delbiando.
"I was very upset and I was very disappointed because my daughter goes to Catholic school for a reason," Jennifer said.
When Delbiando's mother called the school, she was told the student will be denied recess for a few days. Delbiando says that punishment is unacceptable for calling her daughter the ?N? word.
News 12 Hudson Valley tried to speak to the principal, but the school called police. Officers told administrators the news crew had a right to be in front of public property.
