An Orange County woman's struggle with her daughter's dyslexia diagnosis is the inspiration behind a newly released independent film.
"Confetti" tells the story of Chinese-American Ann Hu and her daughter, Michelle, who live in Tuxedo Park.
The film was released in select theaters in August, ahead of National Dyslexia Awareness Month this month.
It highlights Hu's struggle to help her daughter after she was diagnosed with the learning challenge at the age of 3. "Be open-minded about the differences between us, among us instead of to hate. You can actually open up your heart and love. And you'll be benefited, and you'll see a different world," says Hu.
Hu says after their yearslong struggle to understand dyslexia, her daughter, now 15, is on the dean's honors list at school.
