Breeze Airways is expanding its services to both Westchester County Airport and Stewart International Airport.
The airline will begin flights to Raleigh and New Orleans later this year from Westchester County Airport.
Breeze Airways founder and CEO, David Neeleman says that the company's success in Westchester since 2022 has spurred plans for expansion into other Hudson Valley areas.
"The airports in New York are so congested and they're so kind of hard to get to,” said Neeleman. “We're having tons of success flying out of Westchester and adding more destinations out of Stewart as well.”
The new flights out of Stewart, however, have received some mixed reactions from flyers who have seen multiple airlines pull out from the airport over the years, including the other airline Neeleman co-founded, JetBlue. In response, he says JetBlue's departure from the airport only offers Breeze Airways an opportunity to go in and add more destinations.
"Our planes are a little smaller. We have a lower trip cost. With JetBlue, the way they're structured, has to fly more daily service. We can fly during peak days. We can fly on Thursdays, Fridays, Sundays, and Mondays, when people actually want to fly anyways. So that helps us to be more profitable on routes as opposed to, you know, flying bigger airplanes daily."
Neeleman says the airline is working on adding even more flights to both airports in the coming months.
