A $60 million project slated for Co-op City will help light up the development without the use of Con Edison's power supply.
Riverbay Corp.,Co-op City's management company, plans to install a megawatt generator at the complex's power plant. Riverbay decided to move off of Con Ed's power supply after the complex went dark on several occassions including in March. The general manager of Riverbay says the generator allows Co-op City to be self-sufficient in the event of a blackout.
Riverbay expects the project to pay for itself by receiving some money from Con Edison. Riverbay says the project will be complete by next summer.
