Anderson is replacing Rick Pitino, who is now thecoach at St. John's.
"I want to take Iona basketball to a place it hasn't been," Anderson said. "I want our guys to know we have big goals here. We want to get to a Sweet 16. I told the guys this time next year, I don't want to be meeting, I want to be playing."
Before coming to Iona, Anderson led Fairleigh Dickinson University to a major upset last Friday when the No. 16 seeded Knights defeated No. 1 ranked Purdue in the NCAA opening round.
