A controversial conversation among parents in a Hudson Valley school district is raising the question about whether some hot button issues should be taught in schools.
Elementary parents in the New Paltz School District were sent an online questionnaire this week, asking them what issues they feel are important for the upcoming school year.
District officials say some parents responded saying they'd like to see class discussions on gender issues and sexual orientation, while others mentioned George Floyd and Black Lives Matter.
The topics got mixed reaction among parents.
New Paltz district officials say these issues are not being considered at this time, nor was it the purpose of the questionnaire.
