The city of New Rochelle on Saturday celebrated 100 years of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP).
The organization’s New Rochelle branch has existed since 1923 with the focus on defending civil rights.
"The constant is, we're made of people who love our community and are committed to justice,” said New Rochelle NAACP president Mark McLean. “The NAACP is always at the forefront of fighting for our community.”
"I love all the NAACP activities,” added White Plains resident Yvonne Bert. “I try to support every branch. The 100 years anniversary is very special and i wanted to be here."
The festivities included a barbeque, with the entire community as invited guests.
