6h agoA New Rochelle man is being credited for helping to remove a driver from a deadly, fiery car crash early Sunday morning.
The accident happened
in Mamaroneck on West Boston Post Road. Robert Harris
says he saw a Honda Accord speed by and slam into a utility post nearly 100
feet away.
A passenger was
thrown for the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver and another
passenger were trapped inside when Harris ran alongside the police officer to
try and lend a helping hand.
“Two cops were trying to
pull the driver from the car and she was pinned. And the car was on fire and
they couldn’t get her out of the car,” says Harris. “I got involved and I ended
up bending the door frame in half and we got the girl out.”
According to the New
Rochelle resident, after he removed the girl from the backseat the entire car
went up in flames within 20 seconds.
“All I could think about was
getting that girl out of that car,” says Harris.
The victims of the crash
have not been identified.
Harris tells News 12 his
heart goes out to the family of all three
young women.
