New Rochelle police are warning business owners and employees to be on the lookout for a person posing as a city fire inspector. According to investigators, the scammer entered a business claiming to be a fire inspector and demanding money for fake equipment inspections.
Police say legitimate fire inspectors will never request immediate payment. Also, real New Rochelle fire personnel will always be in uniform during inspections as well as driving an official fire vehicle that has visible logos.
Police say business owners should ask for identification, look for official logos and call your local fire department to check before making any payments.
